SEMA 2019: Jesse James Goes Off-Road For Line-X With 57 Chevy Cameo

Line-X has made a name for itself protecting the beds of trucks, while Jesse James has made a name for himself as a master fabricator and paying the utmost attention to detail. The two came together for a build for Line-X’s booth at the SEMA Show and it is a show stopper in every way possible.

Jesse James is no stranger to the off-road world as he used to race his Trophy Truck all over the world and recently just competed in the King of the Hammers T1 race. Jesse decided to build a Baja race truck with modern features, but retro style. After several in-depth discussions about Line-X and what it does for race vehicles, he decided to build a 1957 Chevy Cameo. The vehicle, conceived and built by James and his team, not only shows his passion for building race-winning off-road vehicles but also creates a platform to highlight Line-X coatings.

“This is one vehicle I’ve always wanted to build, a retro-Baja that mixes classic style with powerful desert racing performance. When talking to Line-X about a SEMA build, I thought this would be the perfect way to highlight the strength of Line-X coatings on a Baja race truck,” said Jesse James of West Coast Customs. “I know what it takes to finish a Baja race, and Line-X offers the strength and protection I can count on.”

Little details can be seen all over the truck from the rear shock mounts to the pie-cut exhaust.

All over the truck, you can see James’ craftsmanship and his attention to detail. From the pie-cut exhaust tip to the truss that the rear shocks are tied into — the truck has it all. Our favorite part of the truck has to be the rear fenders. Although they aren’t covered in Line-X (yet), the aluminum fenders are handmade to add the perfect touch to this one-of-a-kind truck.

“The rear fender started with tape and chipboard,” James said. “It was then transferred to water-jetted steel that Joe bent up to match the complicated Cameo bedside contours. I mounted the finished jig/bucks to my workbench and started English wheeling some 3003 Aluminum. I think it’s going to look pretty cool and definitely ‘new.’ Plus there is something so satisfying about the look of soft curves of block sanded aluminum.”

Inside and out this is a one-of-a-kind vehicle.

Featured on the truck is Line-X Premium on the exterior, a Texas Speed and Performance LS7 engine package, Showgun Cuts exhaust pie-cuts, King shocks and air bumps, Holley Performance Products engine management system and fittings, Baja Designs lighting, Baer Brakes calipers and rotors, Toyo Tires, Momo seats and harnesses, Fluidyne High Performance transmission and oil coolers, U.S. Body Source front end and bedside panels, Raingear Wiper Systems wiper motor, and radiator by Ron Davis Radiator.

Also included in the build was a 4X4 sPod switch panel, Steel-It Coatings chassis paint, XS Power batteries, LMC Truck glass and trim parts, Steele Racing Products A/C unit, Ticon Industries exhaust tubing, Oberg Filters transmission filter, Dynamic Motorsports torque converter, Quick Latch Distribution hood latches, Borla muffler, Mastercraft Safety limit straps and tie-downs, Shovel-Tec Shovel, Go-Jak Setup by Zendex Tool Corporation/Go-Jak, Camburg Engineering suspension parts, radio equipment by PCI Radios, Premier Street Rod parts and manufacturing body shell, Fuel Safe fuel cell and dry-break, TCS Performance axles, and Stony Automotive Engineering transmission.
