Just about anyone who has ever had any interest in off-road has seen the iconic Meyers Manx. Built on a Volkswagen floor pan, the Manx was a popular way to get some extra off-road style with an inexpensive (back then) platform. VW obviously noticed the popularity and kept it in mind when putting together the ID.BUGGY concept.

The ID.BUGGY was introduced at the Geneva International Motor Show in March, 2019 and is another in the growing series of concept cars built on the modular electric drive matrix (MEB) developed by VW.

The MEB matrix is loaded with an electric motor producing 201 horsepower with a max torque of 228 lb-ft. The high-voltage flat battery is 62kWh and has a range of 155 miles on one cycle. The electric motor is integrated into the rear axle with a single-speed gearbox and can jump to 62 mph in just 7.2 seconds. Top speed of the concept is 99mph.

As an open-air buggy, the ID.BUGGY definitely belongs in the dirt and sand. The buggy sits on 255/55/18 BFGoodrich All-Terrains up front and 285/60R18 BFGoodrich All-Terrain at the back. The belly is protected by solid aluminum skid plates and has red steel eyelets integrated into the bumpers for towing.

Inside the ID.Buggy is minimal and waterproof. A hexagonal steering wheel, wrapped with water-repellent Nappa leather, features touch controls in the crossbar, and a digital instrument cluster keeps the dash uncluttered. The compact electric platform gives passengers plenty of interior space.

The ID. family is continually growing. Some concepts have moved on to productions, like the ID.3 hatchback that goes on sale this fall in Europe. The ID.CROZZ compact SUV and the much-anticipated ID.BUZZ Microbus is expected to go into production within the new few years. Does that mean the ID.Buggy will his showroom floors? Time will tell.
