Certain types of off-road rigs are all about being built to catch air, some, on the other hand, can only dream. Yesterday in Webster Parish, Louisiana an 18-year-old prison escape went for a wild ride in a stolen Toyota Tacoma.
Per KSLA 12 news, Webster Sheriff Gary Sexton said the events began to unfold when a deputy pulled over the driver of a Toyota Tacoma speeding on U.S. Highway 371. As the deputy spoke with the driver outside the pickup, the truck’s passenger slid into the driver’s seat and sped off.
The end of the chase was caught on camera when the inmate’s stolen truck hit spike strips that were laid down by local police officers. What happened next was something in itself. The truck veered off into a ditch and took off like a plane.
The Tacoma flew into the air and landed on a Toyota Corolla that was parked on the other side of a fence at a nearby restaurant. Barbara Harlon was in her car and was able to escape out of the passenger door. Harlon told KSLA about the event, “I felt around to see if I was hurt and could tell that I was okay. God was with me.”
In the end, the prison escapee was placed back into police custody. Come to find out he stole an employee’s vehicle to get away from the jail which he was being held on charges of car theft.
