King of the Hammers is in full swing, with King of the Motos recently finishing up, it was time to bring back one of the week’s favorite events to its natural home. Monday night’s Shootout returned to Backdoor after being at Chocolate Thunder last year. This event had 45 participants from more than 10 states.
A late add to the roster and a first-time competitor at King of the Hammers, Kyle Crouch, age 37 from Kentucky, took down rock-bouncing legends like Bobby Tanner and Richie Keith to win the 2017 Vision X Shootout Presented by KMC, King, and Nitro Gear.
Some wanted to see the fastest vehicle, others wanted to see what the waterfall would do to the competitors.
What made Crouch’s win even more impressive is that he had never driven the Backdoor venue, and on his first pass he set a course record of 22.008, topping Bobby Tanner’s record of 22.6 seconds set in 2015. He won by almost six seconds, to take home the $7,500 prize money.
While Crouch was the fastest during the event, the crowd favorite award went to Guy Miller from California who made a dramatic climb up the rock face, even going on two-wheels before completing the course.
Whether you were in Hammertown or on the side of the cliff, this event never disappoints.
The top 10 racers from Monday’s competition have the option enter the Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ) on Tuesday. The LCQ is the final chance for competitors to gain entry into the King of the Hammer’s main event on Friday.
