Once a lift kit is installed on an off-road vehicle the modification bug is usually caught, but gets put to the wayside while some owners struggle on what to do next. The folks over at Extreme Terrain have recently done a build on a 2015 Jeep Wrangler JK that not only adds a lift kit, but other products to help the Jeep’s performance.
Before and after pictures really showcase the exterior overhaul this Jeep received.
Extreme Terrain’s Ryan Huck walks us through the build where they add a Rough Country Series II 3.5-inch lift with shocks, 35-inch BF Goodrich all-terrain tires, and some Fuel Maverick Wheels. Huck said, “This Jeep will spend most of its time on the road, but we knew that we wanted to take it off-road every so often. We knew we wanted 35-inch tires so we had to find a lift that would give us enough clearance.”
One thing that most other lift kits for Jeeps do not include are new front lower control arms. The Rough Country lift includes new control arms which will help with the caster lost in lifting the vehicle as well as pinion angle.
Huck let us know about another key part that will help with the steering of the vehicle, “The new drop pitman arm and track bar relocation bracket help keep these two in parallel. If these two bars go out of parallel the Jeep may experience bump steer.”
The team decided to go with the Fuel wheels to accent all the other black parts on the Jeep. The wheels are aluminum and a uni-lug stud pattern which means that it will fit on multiple vehicles. The offset of the wheels also allows for additional clearance for running a larger tire.
One way to completely change the way a vehicle looks especially in off-road applications is to replace the bumpers with something a little more aggressive. They added a Rugged Ridge tube front bumper to give the front of the Jeep the desired look.
The new front bumper and light guards really change the exterior look of the Jeep.
“The tubular style give the Jeep a little bit of that throwback feel. This particular bumper is not an off-road bumper. There are no recovery points, winch mount, or additional light mounts, but for what we want to do with the Jeep it will work. It keeps cost and the weight of the vehicle down,” Huck continued.
The bumper allows the factory fog lights to be reused and opens up the wheel well for the larger tires when off-roading so they do not need to worry about rubbing. The last part that was installed on this build was the 17-piece Rugged Ridge black euro guard light kit.
“It drastically changes the exterior look of the Jeep. The kit includes everything except for the fog light covers. There is nothing permanent done to the vehicle when installing this product and it is very simple to do,” Huck explained.
These modifications help both the Jeep and your wallet. The Jeep rides great on-road where it will see most of its miles. Not everyone can make it out to the trail every weekend, but installing products like these will help when you need to take your weekend warrior back to the office on Monday morning.
