Update 5/3/2016:
The event has been changed from a two day event to a one day event. Sunday’s activities have been pushed to Saturday in observance of Mother’s Day, with the exception of the desert drags which have been canceled.
The event gets taken to the next level with the Jump Champs now happening under the lights as part of the Party In The Pits. In addition there will also be a Show ‘n’ Shine during the Jump Champs. Every person through the gates will be able to vote for their favorite vehicle.
Be sure to check out this unique event this weekend. Off Road Xtreme will be out there bringing back all the action. Check out the schedule of events below!
Every person who packs the grandstands during a short-course race, or braves the desert sun is a fan of off-road. Whether they have the ability to build the vehicle of their dreams or come out and support the sport, they are what makes off-road what it is.
The folks over at The Jump Champs look to change the notion of the fans are in the stands with their first annual event May 7th and 8th at Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino, California. This event gets the fans out of the grandstands and into the action in their own vehicle.
This event is like nothing in the industry as it takes the best of everything and packs it all into one weekend. The actions starts Saturday with time trials and desert drags all happen on the first day of the event.
The time trials will be broken into 12 classes from UTVs to race trucks to super stock to Baja bug there will be something for everyone. There will be no other cars on the course when it is a drivers turn. Laps are estimated to be completed in around two minutes, but will vary depending on the class.
Sean Kepler of The Jump Champs is putting the event together and looks to make this a staple in the off-road community. “The overall goal of the event is to give the everyday enthusiast that chance to be the show. Everyone that buys or participates in any off-roading focuses on building something within their budget and that they can play around with. The Jump Champs weekend is for them to come play, win some prizes, and show off their driving skill and vehicle setup,” Kepler explained.
No fancy roll cage or fuel cell is needed. Drivers will only be required to wear a helmet, pants, and closed toe shoes. The event will utilize the crews from the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series for staging and safety. They are the best in the business, so why not have them at an event like this.
This is truly a “run what you brung” type of event. It gives the fan a place to come out and participate in the sport they usually come out and watch. Kepler’s idea is to put the fan first, “With the market being flooded with things to go watch, we hope that fans will be excited to see trucks that are within their reach, see friends or companies they are familiar with out using their trucks, and showing off what technology has done for off-roaders.”
This is a great event for manufactures or fabrication shops to showcase their product. What better way to show what it can do then at an event like this. In addition to the time trials, Sunday will host the Jump Champs race. This event will allow drivers to go off one of two ramps, a 10 foot and four foot.
The jumps will be groomed for trucks to take of smoothly and have a flat landing. Drivers are estimated to reach speeds of over 75 mph and launch over 120 feet. The smaller jump will be for more daily driver type vehicles unless they get a wild hair and decide to hit it big.
“Entry fees for the Time Trials and Jump Champs is $100 per event. Spectators will pay $10 a day to attend, or $20 for the weekend. Spectating is wide open, parking is ample and it is free to camp,” Kepler let us know about the fees for the weekend’s fun.
This is surely to turn into an event that will offer something different then what is out there for off-roaders. We are excited to attend this event, and look forward to watching this event grow. Stay tuned for more details on the event when they are released. For more information on the event visit The Jump Champs’ website or follow them on Facebook.
