We tend to see a lot of police chases being outside of Los Angeles, California, as breaking news rings over the air interrupting our favorite TV show. When it happens, it usually involves someone running on city streets or highway, eventually getting spun out and getting caught by the police.
This video is something different, the suspect is running from the police because of an impending burglary charge. The part that appeals to us off-roaders is he takes the pursuit to the dirt, and tries to use the vehicle to his advantage.
The driver takes his second generation Toyota 4Runner down a dirt road next to the train tracks. This is not something normally seen on TV unless someone is playing the latest Grand Theft Auto video game.
The police back off as soon as the 4Runner hits the dirt, with the driver pushing the Toyota to the limits. The 4Runner can be seen driving at a high rate of speed, flexing the suspension, and handling the dirt like the driver is a racing veteran.
After almost three minutes in the dirt, the driver bails and leaves the truck on the trail. Police eventually close in, but do later call off the search. We do not know if the suspect was eventually caught, or the details of what happened in the events leading up, but are more intrigued at the off-road part of the pursuit.
We are not saying that you should off-road and run from the police, or it is the right thing to do, we just cannot get over the fact that the suspect took the vehicle in the dirt and evaded the police. Tell us what you think in the comments below!
