For those of you who just can’t get enough of the hardcore desert racing action that is King of The Hammers, here is a video of Shannon Campbell’s qualifying run for the 2015 King of The Hammers event, as seen from the front bumper of this 700 hp 4×4 race car! The roar of the engine alone will make your hair stand on end. You may not notice in the video above, but Shannon Campbell hit a rock of fairly good size during the run, but didn’t damage the car, and finished the qualifier with a good starting position.
However, the most amazing thing you’ll see for yourself (and believe me, it’s as if you’re strapped to the front bumper for this point of view) is the startling speed at which Shannon Campbell attacks this 2015 King of The Hammers qualifying course. Although Shannon Campbell, as a former winner of the King of The Hammers (2008 and 2011) has an automatic entry in the race while others must qualify for entry through points gained during the prior Ultra4 Racing season, he must still go through the pre-race qualifier to get his starting position.
As any desert off-road racer (or any motorsports competitor for that matter) knows, starting the race as far ahead in the pack as possible is always an advantage. The advantage is never so important as it is in off-road racing due to the dust left hovering over the course (unless there is a swift-blowing breeze) for all the drivers in the middle or back of the pack.
So you can easily understand why Shannon Campbell has his foot buried in the go pedal on this 2015 King of The Hammers qualifying run. Be warned though, if you have a tendency for motion sickness, this video could be a bit upsetting, as the terrain and skyline jump around worse than that ahead of a rolling ship. Regardless, this is one of the most enjoyable POV (point of view) action videos we have seen in a long time. Enjoy the ride!
