Off-road racing isn’t like any other sport. It’s not really like any other motorsport, either. Racing headlong through the desert at breakneck speeds is incredibly tough on man and machine. Many drivers from other disciplines of auto racing have tried it once and then fallen back into their comfortable seat.
So when you meet a guy like Matt Lovell and you realize that he has more than 6,000-miles of off-road desert racing under his tires and yet still hungers for more, entering every race with the same positive attitude, it makes you wonder what he draws upon to continue that unique drive and dedication found in just a few of the best race car drivers of today.
Matt began racing and being outdoors at an early age. Engaging in BMX riding, dirt bike racing, and surfing were things he loved to do. He spent more than 15-years riding anything with two wheels, and then set out to become highly competitive in the endurance sport of desert racing. After working as a crew member in the pits, he worked his way up to navigator, and then into the co-driver seat with several teams. These experiences gave him the knowledge Matt needed to run a team and race truck that could handle the demands of off-road racing.
Pursuing his dream of one day competing in the same arena with the top drivers in the off-road world, Matt has now achieved that goal. Today he races in the highly competitive Mid-Sized trophy truck class in Best In The Desert (BITD), one of the premiere off-road series with events such as the famous Mint 400 on his agenda. It’s not surprising then that with his experience and winning attitude, sponsors such as Airaid air filters are onboard with Matt Lovell for yet another season in 2015.
