VIDEO: Check Out This 1964 FJ40 Icon Reformer Up For Sale

Land CruiserThere’s not a whole lot cooler than a vintage 1964 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser, especially a resto-mod with all of the bells and whistles. This 1964 FJ40 Icon Reformer seen in the video above was saved and given a modern heart transplant in the form of a GM 5.7-liter LS motor capable of 420 horsepower with under 4,000 miles on the new motor since restoration.

When stomping on the gas, this high-horsepower Land Cruiser can put it down, but let off the gas and it returns to a docile and mellow beast that is the best of both worlds. The target for this build was to maintain a vintage look, but also pack a mean punch. Mission accomplished.

Started in May 2009, this finished project is up for sale and ready to go to a new home. Staying true to Art Morrison’s design, this ’64 Icon Reformer was painted a Pakistani military color from the ’70s. It still retains that old-school edge with tall and skinny 33-inch BFGoodrich rubber wrapped around stock powder-coated wheels.

Many upgrades were added to the truck such as 1977-1978 axles, much stronger than the original, and they have been modified with strengthened housings, welded gussets and interface plates. Also, new bearings, spindles and a brake upgrade were added to the build.

Land Cruiser engineThis FJ40 still has the factory air conditioning and a one-piece drop-down tailgate. It also has a soft top that has been upgraded with the highest quality of snaps, zippers, and acrylic, making it rarer than its hardtop brethren.

The headlight bezel assembly has been replaced with “Land Cruiser” stamped in it, a original assembly that can sell on eBay for $400-$500 in the roughest of conditions. The headlamps have been upgraded to halogens.

Even the doors are unique to the earliest years and super rare to find. These doors include 90-degree rotating hinges, all-new weather-stripping and new acrylic windows.

The dashboard appears rather stock, but looks super clean with upgraded knobs with color-coated gauges upgraded to appear factory. Even the ashtray opens up to charge iPods and other electronic devices.

If your interested contact Icon4x4.com. No matter what, tell us what you think of this super-clean resto-mod, and is this the kind of rig you want to see more of?
