It has been one heck of a year for off-roader Blake Wilkey. In January he published his Urban Assault: San Diego Shark Attack that has been seen over one million times on YouTube which shows him driving all over San Diego, California and last week we announced that he would be facing a Judge on 26 misdemeanor counts.
Well, the judge has sentenced Wilkey in his cases, and to more than most of us thought he would get. We thought he would get a slap on the wrist and some community service, but the judge most likely wanted to set an example for what was done.
Wilkey plead guilty this morning and was sentenced to a total of 49 days in jail, including four days for breaking a current probation for reckless driving. He will serve the four days on two consecutive weekends then serve the remaining 45 days.
The video was created “just for fun,” according to Wilkey and to show some friends, but it did more than that. The San Diego city attorney said, “The driving done in videos like this put lives in danger.” Wilkey was also charged with failure to obtain a special permit for a special event. He could have received up 21 months for that.
Two of the people that helped make the video testified against him. They had spoken with investigators saying that he was the one driving and the one that should face the charges. The video does show things that we all wish we could do, but sentencing today shows us why we can’t. Do you feel that he got what he deserved? Tell us in the comments below!
