The Honda Ridgeline has been one truck that everyone has had mixed emotions on. Honda unveiled the all-new Ridgeline during a press conference at the 2016 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan.
John Mendel would start off the debut with the Honda Ridgeline that competed in the 2015 Baja 1000 off to the side of the stage. Takahiro Hachigo, President & CEO of Honda, was then brought out to explain Hondintroduce the all-new 2017 Honda Ridgeline.
Find your adventure, capable, and versatile played in the background as the new truck made its way to the stage. The first thing that we noticed about the truck was the bed was now separate from the cab. There was no more swooping angle from the back of the cab to the top of the bed.
“This Ridgeline brings our new technology and original thinking to the market in a new pickup design,” Mendel explained with the truck in the background. “In developing this new Ridgeline we looked across the full spectrum of today’s truck and SUV buyers.”
The Ridgeline comes with Honda’s 3.5-liter i-VTEC V6 engine and a six-speed automatic transmission. Mendel also mentioned that the truck will be atop the list in the mid-size market for fuel economy. We feel that it will be hard to compete with the new diesel Chevrolet Colorado, but we will need to weight for the final numbers to come out.
Mendel explained the new truck will include something new, “For the first time our expanded Ridgeline lineup will include an option of front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The AWD models will have the i-VTM4 with intellifent terrain management.”
We were a little stunned when we heard that they have the option for a front-wheel drive truck. To us, something just does not seem right. What do you think of the new Ridgeline? Tell us in the comments below.
